Australia’s reaction to the release of the new iPhone 4 as competition hots up in the smartphone market. Beware also of the proliferation of smartphone applications that spy on their owners. US-based security firm Lookout scanned thousands of apps and found 80 extracted personal data which could be forwarded to third parties. Read more …

Whether you aren’t over MasterChef too? With the grand finale’s peak audience of 4.35 million, the marketers must be pretty pleased. It’s a great example of an integrated approach to promotion – they made excellent use of traditional media but they also guaranteed their no 1 Google search position with great use of social media, blogs and even web resources like Wikipedia. They know the more references and links to a site, the higher the Google ranking. And you want to be sure you’re on page one of those results as fewer than 20% of users move onto page two.

Doing media training for chiropractors who are often misrepresented in the media. We’re also doing lots of research for clients, and the more we’ve listened, the more we’ve been thinking about stereotypes and how people define themselves. Did you know that just having a short group discussion about why a negative stereotype is invalid can be enough to overcome that stereotype? Find out more …

That in the first week of the election campaign, one of our clients featured on Channel 7 News with a story about a wonderful doctor doing great things at St Andrew’s, and we had a thought-provoking article about gender selection featured on the prime Courier-Mail Viewpoint page.

Media is always hungry for interesting news and opinions, and thankfully it’s not always about our over-exposed politicians!

The Go-Between by L P Hartley, a romantic novel set in turn-of-the century England (published 1953). Brisbane’s new Go Between Bridge was named after the city’s iconic band, but you might not know that the name of the band, the Go Betweens, was inspired by this beautifully written book.

We’re also reading Turquoise: A Chef’s Travels in Turkey by Greg Malouf. Travel and food are such a tempting mix. And if you’re still feeling Turkish, read The Museum of Innocence by Orhan Pamuk and take a nostalgic wander through the streets of Istanbul.

By Google maps – the sheer joy of pulling out your 3G mobile phone, entering the address and finding the city office block you’ve been walking past for the last 10 minutes. But it’s not without its perils – be warned! Google lawsuit: Woman follows directions, gets run over.

Some naysayers at Niche aren’t completely won over by Google Maps because it sometimes takes you a little of course. Tell us what you think by taking our 5 second survey

ABC News 24 channel. It’s exciting to see even more airtime devoted to news and analysis and hopefully (after 21 August), we’ll hear a lot more about topics other than the election.

A new website for Climate Change Fishing, a website helping people in the industry promote sustainable fishing. It’s a Queensland-driven initiative that we hope will have national and global impact. Climate Change Fishing
